Occurrence of Active 80 S Ribosomes in Subcellular Particles in the Mitochondrial Fraction of Fetal Bovine Liver
In the course of studies on protein synthesis by unidentified subcellular particle in the mitochonmitochondria isolated from fetal calves liver, we drial fraction . Because these ribosomes incorporate found active' 80 S ribosomes associated with an leucine-'H under conditions that label only intramitochondrial ribosomes in adult mammalian sys1 Active under incubation conditions that support tem...
متن کاملTranslation termination in human mitochondrial ribosomes.
Mitochondria are ubiquitous and essential organelles for all nucleated cells of higher eukaryotes. They contain their own genome [mtDNA (mitochondrial DNA)], and this autosomally replicating extranuclear DNA encodes a complement of genes whose products are required to couple oxidative phosphorylation. Sequencing of this human mtDNA more than 20 years ago revealed unusual features that included ...
متن کاملThe growth of ordered two-dimensional sheets of 70 S ribosomes from Bacillus stearothermophilus.
Well ordered two-dimensional sheets of intact 70 S ribosomes from Bacillus stearothermophilus have been obtained in vitro using salt-alcohol mixtures. These sheets consist of relatively small unit cells with dimensions of 200 +/- 20 A and 400 +/- 30 A. Diffraction patterns of electron micrographs of these sheets stained with uranyl acetate contain features to 42 A resolution.

Sypherd, Paul S. (University of California, San Diego). Formation of ribosomes from precursor ribonucleoprotein particles. J. Bacteriol. 90:411-417. 1965.-Amino acid deprivation of a "relaxed" mutant leads to the accumulation of ribonucleoprotein particles. The possibility that these particles are equivalent to normal ribosome precursors was investigated. This was accomplished by determining th...
